MAIN LINE: CLE ELUM

The decline of Cle Elum was sealed with the introduction of the Tacoma - Othello run throughs in 1975. Other than an occasional train order or meet, Cle Elum had lost its raison d'etre. Passenger trains no longer ran, there was no freight traffic of any kind, the sub-station was dark, and without the crew change turnaround, trains no longer stopped at all. Other than meets, my only on the job experience at Cle Elum was when the depot was used as a staging area for the clean up of the wreck at Bridge FF-2, two miles west.
